Study Design Overview

VCE Physics develops a rigorous understanding of the physical world from subatomic particles to cosmological scales. Students study mechanics, energy, electricity, magnetism, waves, light and modern physics including quantum mechanics and special relativity. The subject emphasises experimental skills, mathematical modelling and applying physics concepts to real-world phenomena. Units 1 and 2 introduce thermal energy, electricity, light, matter, motion and waves, while Units 3 and 4 advance into fields, electromagnetic induction, electric circuits, and the quantum model of light and matter. Physics is assessed through school-based SACs and a VCAA written examination requiring a scientific calculator. It is a core prerequisite for engineering, physics, astrophysics, and many health sciences. Excelerate offers a comprehensive collection of VCE Physics practice questions with step-by-step AI hints and immediate answer feedback.
