Study Design Overview

VCE General Mathematics provides students with practical mathematical skills in statistics, financial mathematics, networks, matrices and geometry. It is designed for students who want to extend their numeracy and problem-solving skills in everyday and workplace contexts without the calculus focus of Mathematical Methods. Units 1 and 2 cover linear relations, data distributions, financial arithmetic, matrices and networks. Units 3 and 4 (Further Mathematics) consist of a compulsory Core component — Data Analysis and Recursion & Financial Modelling — plus two selected Modules. Two end-of-year exams test students, including a CAS-active Examination 2.
