Study Design Overview
VCE Biology examines living systems from the molecular to the ecological level. Students explore cellular structure and function, DNA, protein synthesis, genetics, the immune system, evolution and biodiversity. The subject develops skills in designing and conducting investigations, analysing biological data and evaluating evidence. Units 1 and 2 focus on how organisms function and how inheritance works, while Units 3 and 4 investigate how cells regulate their functions, how the immune system responds to disease, and how evolutionary processes shape living diversity. Biology is assessed through SACs and a VCAA written examination. It is a common prerequisite pathway for medicine, nursing, veterinary science, biotechnology and environmental management.
